You might not be aware, but most Fibre Networks are Open-Access, which means that any Internet Service Provider (ISP), such as us, that has an agreement with them can provide you with an Internet Connection. As an example, you might currently have Fibre through 'Green Internet', which is just one of the ISPs available on the Vumatel, Openserve or MetroFibre etc. network. Switching from them to us is easy, simple and quick!

You will only be able to get internet access once {{ provider.name }} has taken the area live
and done an installation to your premises.
Placing a pre-order with Afrihost is the best way to make sure you’re first on the list for connectivity once {{ provider.name }} is finished and everything’s ready to go.
On Setup, Activation, Migration and Hardware Costs
Sign up with Afrihost Fibre Today and you can save up to R4000! This overall amount of up to R4000 can be used to offset installation and hardware costs if you're new to Fibre, or if you aren't happy with your current ISP and want to experience Pure Internet Joy, we'll credit your Afrihost account to re‑imburse you for costs incurred in making the switch!
If you're signing up for a new connection, the savings will automatically apply on checkout.
If you're migrating from another ISP, we'll automatically zero‑rate migration fees associated with the last‑mile provider (i.e. Vumatel, MetroFibre etc.) and then credit your Afrihost account for the termination costs charged by your previous ISP (up to the remaining balance of the R4000 maximum) when you submit a copy of the termination settlement to us.

Home Uncapped packages are subject to throttling should a user reach the monthly threshold - but only if our network is under strain.
Monthly Thresholds:
1 Mbps | 2 Mbps | 4-5 Mbps |
20GB | 40GB | 80GB |
8 Mbps | 10 Mbps | 20-25 Mbps |
100GB | 120GB | 200GB |
40-50 Mbps | 100 Mbps | 1000 Mbps |
250GB | 300GB | 1000GB |
Premium Uncapped packages are not subject to throttling or monthly thresholds like Home Uncapped packages, and will always enjoy full-speed Realtime Services under normal circumstances.
Premium Uncapped packages can, however, be subject to the shaping of Downloads and P2P Traffic when there is a high demand on the network.
Our intention is not to shape Priority Uncapped packages, however shaping can be applied during times of extreme network congestion. When applied, only non‑realtime, non-interactive services will be affected by shaping, to ensure the best possible broadband experience.
Unshaped Uncapped packages will always enjoy full-speed Realtime Services under normal network load. No Throttling or Shaping will ever be applied, even during high network congestion.
How long will it take to get connected?
This will depend on the turnaround for your installation and activation. Once the line has been installed in your premises it can take up to 5 days for the provider to activate your line. As soon as your Fibre line is active, you can be connected to Pure Internet Joy from Afrihost within 24 Hours.
Each provider has a different lead time for installation and activation. If your line is already activated, you'll be connected shortly after you sign up.
Is the price of the Fibre line included in the package price?
Yes – the price you see, is the price you pay! All Fibre Packages are bundled, so the price is for both your Data and the Line rental, all‑inclusive.
Will I have to pay a setup fee?
Sign up with Afrihost Fibre Today and you can save up to R4000 - We'll send you a Fibre-Ready Wi-Fi Router at no cost on new installations. Terms and Conditions apply.
Can I use my current DSL router?
Probably not, as Fibre works very differently to DSL. But you may, in some cases, be able to use your existing Wi‑Fi enabled router to spread your Fibre connection via Wi‑Fi. This will depend on which router you have and how the provider installs your Fibre.
Do I need a telephone line to use Fibre?
No! Fibre connects via optical cables that carry data via light, which are completely separate from the Telkom copper wire network.
How is Fibre different from DSL?
DSL is dependent on Telkom copper wire infrastructure, which is often unreliable and can be slow if you have a bad line or are far away from your local exchange, whereas Fibre transmits data with pulses of light over an optical cable.
These cables are far more reliable than copper wires and can offer much greater connectivity speeds.
What if I don't have Fibre in my area?
If Fibre isn't available in your area yet, use the Availability Tool to give us your details and we'll let you know as soon as Fibre becomes available in your area.
Who can get Fibre?
Our Fibre packages are available to anyone in areas that have coverage from one of our Last‑Mile Fibre Partners. Some areas have multiple providers, resulting in more choice and flexibility for you.
See Which Providers are Available In Your AreaAre your Fibre Packages shaped?
This will depend on the package you choose. Your experience will be determined by the grade of product you select. If you want an unshaped line you can purchase one of the Priority Packages.
Alternatively, our Premium Packages are semi‑shaped and the Home Packages can be subject to throttling. But remember, shaping only affects downloads and not real time services such as browsing, gaming, youtube, streaming etc. Also, shaping only happens in situations where the network might be congested.
Can I use your Fibre Packages for my business?
Unfortunately not. All Afrihost Fibre Packages are for residential sign-ups only. Businesses cannot sign up at this moment.
