Fibre Means Better, Faster Internet.

Compared to other Broadband Options

Fast Internet, Reliable Internet
Fast Internet, Reliable Internet.
Fibre uses optical cables to carry data via light, which makes it the fastest internet you can get – up to 50x times faster than the fastest ADSL available in South Africa. With the improved bandwidth throughput of Fibre you’ll have a more stable connection with lower latency. And, because Fibre uses light instead of electrical pulses, it's weather resistant and doesn't degrade over large distances – giving you a consistent, fast internet and a dependable experience.
Connect More Devices
Connect More Devices
We live in a digital world, with more devices in our homes every single day - and normal broadband solutions struggle to support the increased demand on your Internet Connection. With Fast Fibre, you can connect more devices, at better speeds than ever before – start enjoying reliable, fast internet connectivity in every room of the house.
No Telephone Line Required
No Telephone Line Required
One of the awesome benefits of using Fibre is that you don't need a Telkom landline to get connected. This means that you'll save hundreds every month because you're not paying for a phone line (which you probably don't use anyway) just to connect to the internet. You also don't have to worry about copper cable theft ever again!
On-Demand Entertainment
On-Demand Entertainment
With Fibre, say goodbye to constant buffering, thanks to smooth, fast connectivity – allowing you to enjoy HD or 4K content, even if several people are streaming at the same time.* And with super‑low latency, you can take gaming to a whole new level too.
* The ability to stream multiple content sources and the quality thereof is determined by the speed of the connection you choose.

Fast… Faster… Blazing- Fast Internet!

Afrihost Fibre is up to 50x times faster than the fastest ADSL

  • Frequently Asked Questions
Fibre Availability
Fibre is still new and currently being rolled out across the country. So you may not have Fibre available in your area just yet. Use our Availability Map to find out if your area is Fibre ready and which providers are available.
Sign up with Afrihost
In true Afrihost style, we have several affordable, contract-free Fibre packages to choose from, and have multiple Fibre providers working with us to bring you Pure Internet Joy. Simply put in your address, and if you're covered, we'll take it from there and get you connected before you can say Blazing‑Fast Broadband.
Fibre Installation
There are three basic steps to getting Fibre, which begins with availability in your neighbourhood. Once the provider has done this initial installation, your area would be Fibre ready. The next step is to have a Fibre line brought onto your property. Once you've signed up for Fibre with Afrihost, the relevant provider will be in touch to help you get the Fibre line installed to your premises.
Pure Internet Joy!
Once you're all set up, just sit back and enjoy faster internet with HD or 4K streaming, faster downloads, and uninterrupted surfing and gaming. And you can even do this wirelessly across supported devices with the Afrihost Dual‑Band AC Wi‑Fi Router, which provides an excellent coverage area and operates on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies for future‑proof, cutting‑edge connectivity.

Openserve Home Uncapped

Best for General Use

Home Uncapped packages are subject to throttling should a user reach the monthly threshold - but only if our network is under strain.

Monthly Thresholds:

1 Mbps 2 Mbps 4-5 Mbps
20GB 40GB 80GB
8 Mbps 10 Mbps 20-25 Mbps
100GB 120GB 200GB
40-50 Mbps 100 Mbps 1000 Mbps
250GB 300GB 1000GB

Openserve Premium Uncapped

Best for Media and Gaming

Premium Uncapped packages are not subject to throttling or monthly thresholds like Home Uncapped packages, and will always enjoy full-speed Realtime Services under normal circumstances.

Premium Uncapped packages can, however, be subject to the shaping of Downloads and P2P Traffic when there is a high demand on the network.

Openserve Priority Uncapped

Best for Heavy Internet Use

Our intention is not to shape Priority Uncapped packages, however shaping can be applied during times of extreme network congestion. When applied, only non‑realtime, non-interactive services will be affected by shaping, to ensure the best possible broadband experience.

Unshaped Uncapped

All Fibre providers except Openserve

Unshaped Uncapped packages will always enjoy full-speed Realtime Services under normal network load. No Throttling or Shaping will ever be applied, even during high network congestion.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take to get connected?

This will depend on the turnaround for your installation and activation. Once the line has been installed in your premises it can take up to 5 days for the provider to activate your line. As soon as your Fibre line is active, you can be connected to Pure Internet Joy from Afrihost within 24 Hours.

Each provider has a different lead time for installation and activation. If your line is already activated, you'll be connected shortly after you sign up.

Is the price of the Fibre line included in the package price?

Yes – the price you see, is the price you pay! All Fibre Packages are bundled, so the price is for both your Data and the Line rental, all‑inclusive.

Will I have to pay a setup fee?

Sign up with Afrihost Fibre Today and you can save up to R4000 - We'll send you a Fibre-Ready Wi-Fi Router at no cost on new installations. Terms and Conditions apply.

Can I use my current DSL router?

Probably not, as Fibre works very differently to DSL. But you may, in some cases, be able to use your existing Wi‑Fi enabled router to spread your Fibre connection via Wi‑Fi. This will depend on which router you have and how the provider installs your Fibre.

Do I need a telephone line to use Fibre?

No! Fibre connects via optical cables that carry data via light, which are completely separate from the Telkom copper wire network.

How is Fibre different from DSL?

DSL is dependent on Telkom copper wire infrastructure, which is often unreliable and can be slow if you have a bad line or are far away from your local exchange, whereas Fibre transmits data with pulses of light over an optical cable.

These cables are far more reliable than copper wires and can offer much greater connectivity speeds.

What if I don't have Fibre in my area?

If Fibre isn't available in your area yet, use the Availability Tool to give us your details and we'll let you know as soon as Fibre becomes available in your area.

Who can get Fibre?

Our Fibre packages are available to anyone in areas that have coverage from one of our Last‑Mile Fibre Partners. Some areas have multiple providers, resulting in more choice and flexibility for you.

See Which Providers are Available In Your Area

Are your Fibre Packages shaped?

This will depend on the package you choose. Your experience will be determined by the grade of product you select. If you want an unshaped line you can purchase one of the Priority Packages.

Alternatively, our Premium Packages are semi‑shaped and the Home Packages can be subject to throttling. But remember, shaping only affects downloads and not real time services such as browsing, gaming, youtube, streaming etc. Also, shaping only happens in situations where the network might be congested.

Can I use your Fibre Packages for my business?

Unfortunately not. All Afrihost Fibre Packages are for residential sign-ups only. Businesses cannot sign up at this moment.

The Small Print

General

  • Our Fibre Packages are subject to an Acceptable Use Policy
  • Fibre Packages are locked to a single location.
  • Performance is subject to contention. This means that data speeds and latency may be affected by factors outside of Afrihost's control or demand for bandwidth at any given time.

Management

  • We deal with Last-Mile Fibre Providers on your behalf for all Fibre related issues.
  • We manage queries regarding any Fibre line faults.
  • We can upgrade or downgrade your Fibre line speed.

Bandwidth

  • Home Fibre Packages have a monthly threshold after which your speeds could be subject to throttling if the network is under strain. Premium and Priority Uncapped packages have no usage thresholds.

Shaping and Prioritisation

  • Home Uncapped packages are potentially subject to throttling should a user have reached their monthly threshold and our network is under strain.
  • Premium Uncapped packages are not subject to throttling or monthly thresholds, and will enjoy full speed real‑time services under all normal circumstances, but will be subject to the shaping of downloads when there is a high demand on the network.
  • Our intention is not to shape Priority Uncapped packages, however shaping can be applied during times of network congestion. When applied, only non‑realtime, non-interactive services will be affected by shaping, to offer the best possible experience to users when network resources are strained.
